Author Biography

Fleur Thompson, Maynie Thompson, and Janet Hunt.The photo above was taken on the book launch of Biddy Burt's book "Native Trees & Shrubs of the Hauraki Gulf Islands", at the Waiheke Island Art Gallery.   On the right-hand side is Janet Hunt, author of the highly-acclaimed and award winning book "Wetlands of New Zealand"; in the centre is Maynie Thompson, peace activist and author of the children's poetry books "I heard a Blackbird Singing" and "Running in the Wind"; on the left is Fleur Juliet Thompson from Intellia Limited, who acquired the e-book publishing rights for Intellia, with the support of the author, for the e-book version of "I heard a blackbird singing", and "Running in the Wind", both titles are collection of children's poems.

"Tea, Scones and Nuclear Disarmament"

Maynie Thompson lives on Waiheke Island and has five children and eight grandchildren.

She learned the importance of listening to children through bringing up her own and working in Playcentres. She delights in children's imagination and insight. She intended to write a poetry book by children for children.

Maynie Thompson has been a peace activist and livelong supporter of the global peace movement.

Her life and work in the peace movement has been captured in a documentary entitled "Tea, Scons, and Nuclear Disarmament" which has been broadcast on New Zealand Television as well as overseas.

Maynie Thompson was awarded a medal by Queen Elizabeth II "in recognition of her contribution to world peace".
