The Periwinkle Shell:

In the great tradition of 'Bridges of Madison County' comes a tale of love and redemption. Both uplifting and moving, the stories within the story will make you remember the special elements of your own history. Linda Mullens is dying. It is an ordinary death, in a bed in a hospital in London. Family forms the bedrock of this tale, with Linda visited frequently by her husband of 30 years and two grown children. Yet, in her dreams and her waking hours, she is somewhere else, back in the Africa of her childhood and with her first lover, a black man, Jacob. This wasn't a first love that went the way of first loves. Rather, shaped by the politics and passion of the time, the wrench of parting was magnified by the burden of unfinished business. Now, in the knowledge that she is dying, Linda risks her marriage to call her first lover to her and while she waits we get to know the dimensions of her marriage, a very human marriage filled with love and special moments and also with weakness and human flaws - a real marriage.
